Thirty-three Michigan-based primary care medical practices participated in the Michigan Improving Performance in Practice (IPIP)/Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) learning collaborative. The IPIP program was developed by the American Board of Medical Specialties to help physicians improve chronic disease and preventive care in the office-practice setting and to achieve quality improvement credits for recertification, and funded by the Robert Wood Foundation. Michigan IPIP was sponsored by the Michigan Primary Care Consortium with the Auto Industry Action Group (AIAG) serving as fiduciary. AIAG facilitated a unique component of the Michigan IPIP project wherein quality improvement experts from industry were recruited and trained to serve as volunteer quality improvement coaches to the participating practices.
During the year long learning collaborative improvement teams from each practice participated in three 2 day learning sessions. Between sessions, each practice received coaching from one or two quality improvement experts on means to make their offices more efficient. use registries or electronic electronic technology, implement processes to stamdardize and improve chronic illness and preventive care and meet patient-centered medical home designation criteria.
The Michigan IPIP Outcomes Congress was held March 24 & 25, 2010.
